International Master Program (MSc) in Forest Policy and Economics Sarajevo and Belgrade 2010/2012


Vision:

The vision of the International Master of Science in Forest Policy and Economics (FOPER MSc) is to educate a new generation of Forest Policy and Economics experts able to contribute to improving forest governance and forest management in order to increase the contribution of the forest sector to national economies in South East European countries. Partners of this International Master program are forestry faculties from Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia and Serbia.

Why to apply:

The FOPER MSc is educating a new generation of experts to contribute in developing a modern forest sector in the dynamic and rapidly changing socio-economic and political context of South Eastern Europe. The graduates from FOPER MSc are employed as forest policy and economics experts, lecturers and researchers, in the private and public sector, nationally and internationally.  With their strong training in the theoretical basis of forest policy and economics along with extensive practical application through exercises, field courses, and research, the new generations of FOPER MSc students are leading the way towards new modes of governance in forestry and new approaches to economic management of the full value of forests. All sectors of society benefit, especially rural communities and forest dependent activities often conducted by women and impoverished groups, and the national economy. 

Studies:

The studies will start in September 2010. The first three semesters are taught in the classroom and field, and divided equally between forestry faculties in Sarajevo and Belgrade. During the fourth semester, the students conduct the field work for and write their Master's Thesis, generally in their home country.  In addition, they participate in the Master's Thesis Seminar, which supports this work as well as the FOPER Research Projects to which their thesis research usually contributes. Thus, strong relationships are built and sustained among regional faculty and researchers through teaching, research, publication, and policy advising. 
The graduates will receive the degree of Master of Science in Forest Policy and Economics (MSc) after successfully defending their Master's Thesis in either Sarajevo or Belgrade.

Duration: 2 years (4 semesters, 120 ECTS)

Application and Scholarships

A maximum of 30 students will be selected for this program. The applicants should hold a university degree (BSc, Engineer or equivalent) in forestry or related field, or demonstrate how their degree has prepared them for a Master's of Science in the fields of forest policy and economics.The application period is scheduled for August 2010. By August 25th, the following documents must be sent to the Master Program Selection Council, which is co-located in Sarajevo and Belgrade.  

1. Detailed Curriculum Vitae (min. 1 page written in English)   

2. Motivation Letter (2-5 pages written in English)   

3. Diploma of previous bachelor studies (or higher)/academic degree (original or certified copy, translated to English)  

4. List of subjects and examination grades/diploma supplement/index (original or certified copy, translated to English)

5. Two Reference letters by professors who may be contacted by the FOPER MSc Selection Council and one letter from   employer/colleague/family friend.

Incomplete applications will not be taken into consideration.

Oral interviews of qualified applicants will be held on 26 - 30.08.2010 in their home country.
